Degree Overview

Build the skills to lead in BS speech Language pathology. Speech Language Pathology/Therapy (SLP/T) is an essential segment of the modern health care system. It is a significant part of Rehabilitation sciences. It pertains to the clinical examination, evaluation, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, and feeding, swallowing and/or hearing disorders. Pakistan with a population of 170 million individuals has an estimated over 20 million suffering from communication, swallowing and/or hearing disorders. The aim of Speech Language Pathology program is to produce graduates in the country who will be competent to identify, assess, evaluate, manage, treat, educate and help to prevent language, speech, voice, fluency, cognitive, and other related communication disorders feeding and swallowing problems. The B.S. SLP curriculum includes the theory and practicum, lab works and the clinical hours.

Curriculum:

The curriculum of the BS SLP Programme consists of a combination of classroom lectures, lab Work, and clinical rotations. Students learn theoretical concepts in the classroom and gain practical skills through hands-on Training. They also have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in clinical settings during supervised clinical rotations in hospitals or other healthcare facilities. Skills Development:

This program will equip graduates to independently evaluate and treat speech, language, and swallowing disorders, contribute to the development of the profession, and conduct research. Hence, Speech Language Pathology/Therapy covers basic parameters of Rehabilitation sciences i.e. preventive, primitive, diagnostic, habilitative, rehabilitative and curative care for the community.

Career Prospects:

The BS SLP Graduates will help people who have never developed, or lost this ability due to illness or injury. Speech language pathologists care for patients of all ages with communication disorders. They assess, treat, and help to prevent speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, swallowing, fluency, and related disorders. They work in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, schools, private practices and more. With experience and further specialization, they can pursue leadership roles, research positions, or teaching opportunities within the field.

Continuing Education:

To stay current and enhance their professional growth, individuals in this field are encouraged to pursue continuing education opportunities. This can include attending workshops, conferences, and seminars, as well as obtaining certifications in specialized areas of laboratory Speech and Language. Some individuals may also choose to pursue advanced degrees, such as a master’s or Doctoral degree, to advance their careers or explore research and academia.
