Intermediate classes are also known as classes 11th and 12th, respectively. The relevant educational boards of Pakistan conduct the (annual) final examination for these academically decisive years and call it the Higher Secondary School Certificate. These examinations are conducted separately for intermediate part I and part II.  Just like any other examination, some of the students also fail to pass these annual examinations. Hence, they have to reappear in the intermediate supplementary exam. Intermediate Supplementary Exam 

The Intermediate Supplementary Exam in Lahore has started for 2025. These are also known as the second annuals. In these exams, the students who have failed in two (2) or fewer papers have been called in ‘compartment. For this scenario, the student has to reappear in the subjects he has failed to pass. 

In other cases, if a student fails in more than two (2) subjects. He or she is considered failed overall, and they will have to redo all the subject exams in the intermediate supplementary examination. 

Intermediate Part I & II

If you have a supply or compart (also known as a compartment) in intermediate part I, then you will move up to intermediate part II and will attempt the supply subject in the intermediate supplementary exam for part I. Subsequently, you will sit in the intermediate part II annual examination that is regularly conducted for your session batch. 

Some students also look to improve their marks; there is a whole separate policy for this. Please note that Pakistan has different boards of education across the country. In Punjab alone, we have 09 boards. Please consider the policies relevant to your educational board.

Generally, the intermediate supplementary exam is conducted 40 days after the result announcement by the board of education responsible for Higher Secondary School Certification (HSSC). In between, the paper re-checks are also conducted. 

However, if you are preparing for the intermediate supplementary exams, you will need to go through the question paper of the subjects you failed in. You will have the subjective part with you. For the objective part, you can ask your friends, batch mates and teachers and professors if they can help. In addition, you will also need to prepare the model papers and past papers.

Going through the 1st annual paper will help you analyse your performance. It will also highlight the weak areas you have in those subjects. Write them down on paper. We have to target these weak points one by one. The time we have is short— just 40 days.

Now, you have written your weak areas, be very specific and make a regular daily-based target for the next time period of forty days. Try to clear your concepts of the topics that are marked important, are alien to you, and those that appear in the paper you failed.
