BS Data Science

Degree Overview

We live in an age of data. Every clinical encounter generates it e-g patient vitals, lab results, imaging reports, prescriptions, discharge notes. Every pharmaceutical trial produces it. Every hospital system collects it. Yet data, without the science to interpret it, is merely noise. The professionals who can transform health data into actionable knowledge, who can find the patterns that predict epidemics, personalise treatment, reduce hospital readmissions, and make health systems work smarter, are among the most sought-after experts in the world today.

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science (BSDS) at Lahore University of Biological and Applied Sciences (UBAS) is designed to produce exactly these professionals. This four-year, eight-semester program combines the mathematical rigour of statistics and linear algebra, the computational power of programming and algorithms, the analytical depth of machine learning and data mining, and the domain awareness of a university embedded in biological and health sciences.

The BSDS program explores the theoretical foundations of information and data science while placing strong emphasis on applied analytics practice. Students learn to collect, clean, integrate, analyse, model, and visualise data from diverse and complex sources, including clinical databases, electronic health records, medical imaging repositories, genomic datasets, and public health surveillance systems.

UBAS’s position as a biological and applied sciences university is not incidental to this program, it is its defining strength. Data science students have access to research partnerships and problem sets from across the university’s health sciences faculties, providing genuinely meaningful data contexts that purely computational programs cannot offer.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOS)

The BSDS program is designed so that graduates, within three to five years of graduation, will:
